TRAINING WORKSHOPS

WIMSAL has just concluded a high profile training seminar for Female Journalist from 6th-7th April 2009 at the  Police Officers Mess at Kingtom Barracks in Freetown.

The principal objective of this seminar is to create a forum wherein Female Media Practitioners wouldl have an opportunity to voice out in a constructive manner, what has been the numerous challenges that have affected them in the execution of their respective media functions in Sierra Leone. The Seminar also aimed at bringing together practicing journalists from both Print and Electronic Media to examine the following issues:

  • Existing challenges like negative perception of female journalists in a male dorminated soceity
  • Discrimination against female journalists in the work place
  • Discuss new strategies to recruite recruit new members
  • Discuss plans on a 3 years strategic plan for the organization.

WIMSAL SEMINAR hosted 6th -7th APRIL 2009

 

INTRODUCTION: The two-day seminar is consider as another stride of this new executive under the current leadership of Miss Doreen Barrie to enhance the standard of female journalists, a key objective of Women in the Media Sierra Leone(WIMSAL).

One key feature of this seminar is that it is been organized by the heard effort of he executive and some members, in order to actualize our mandate.

 

OVERVIEW

The Seminar is to create a forum where female media practitioners would have an opportunity to discuss challenges that are affecting their progress in various media organizations, and proffer workable solutions.

It was designed to embrace non members as a strategy to galvanize membership, and also targeted members from provincial areas.

  • Partnership and networking with like minded organizations
CONCLUSION

 

WIMSAL a newly formed organisation that is poised to look into the challenges that were identified during the workshop and to implement these recommendations.

We do also look forward to forming new partnerships with well- meaning organizations with similar goals to actualize our objectives,
