DOREEN BARRY, PRESIDENT

MY MISSION:

My name is Doreen Barry, newly elected President of WIMSAL. I am a practicing female media Practitioner attached to the Sierra Leone Broadcasting Service (SLBS) at New England Ville in Freetown.

During the next two years of my presidency, I will ensure that WIMSAL establish partnerships and network with other like-minded organizations both in and outside the Jornalistic profession to help overcome inequality and marginalization of Female Journalists in the media landscape of Sierra Leone. Through collective and proactive efforts, we would create oportunities for growth and development for the bulk of female media practitioners in the country.

MY TWO YEAR PLAN:

As pesident, I must hasten to commend the very positive developments taking place amongst female media practitioners in the country recently. To be specific, it is very gratifying to experience for the first time in our history, to see  well meaning, diligent and determined practicing female journalists organise themselves into a unified entity like WIMSAL to collectively raise awareness about issues afecting them, is itself a tremendous  achievement .

I envisage a situation whereby there would be equilibrium in the distribution of opportunities  during the next couple of years. Several plans have benn scheduled to ensure that we achieve our vision and objectives. Amongst the plans which we have put in place is that of Building the capacity of our members through  STAR TRAINING PROGRAMMES, peering and experience sharing sessions, research and outreach programmes etc.

Furthermore, the organization intends to undertake advocacy initiatives, dialogue forums and networking with partners that are stragetic to our mission.

However, all these plans would remain mere plans written in black and white, if we do not have the support of both state and non state actors. The commitment and activities of the organization would remain a farce if we are deprived of the highly needed support we require.

Therefore the core values of the organization are empowerment, inclusiveness, equality, participation, accountability and transparency.
